Kombiverkehr has joined the standardisation bodies for the new European EN 16973 standard in order to give forwarders and logistics companies greater planning certainty in the future when buying cranable semitrailers. The standard, which has been in force since 1 January 2018, defines the greatest possible envelope, important dimensions, items of equipment and technical requirements for cranable trailers. Among others, the standard takes account of the megatrailer pocket wagons developed in recent years and known under the T 3000, TWIN and T 5 type designations, large quantities of which have already been purchased,. This means that large numbers of suitable wagons are already available for new trailers built in accordance with EN 16973. The new EN 16973 lays down the minimum requirements for the dimensions of the envelope in the development of pocket wagon technology. In other words, the trailer determines the wagon. The advantage for forwarders is that cranable trailers compliant with EN 16973 can be universally loaded on any modern pocket wagon for a long period.
