Kombiverkehr expands Austrian services with new link between Rostock and Wels
02/17/2017
  • Many different gateway connections between Scandinavia and southeastern Europe

(Frankfurt/Main, 17 February 2017) In launching a new train service between the Port of Rostock and Wels in Austria, to start as of now, Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr KG, Europe's market leader in intermodal rail freight transport, is offering customers from the forwarding and logistics industries another option for carrying goods and freight efficiently and at low cost by rail. Starting immediately, the direct train connects Austria with the north of Germany once a week. It will depart Rostock on Mondays (closing time for acceptance 01.45 hours), leaving Wels in the opposite direction on Fridays (closing time for acceptance 20.00 hours). The train will cover the 930 km-long route in around 24 hours. If there is sufficient demand, the new product is to be boosted to two weekly return trips.

"The train between Rostock and Wels is a model example of the network strategy pursued by Kombiverkehr. There are many different connection options from Rostock and Wels by both rail and water, which will enable forwarders to deliver intermodal transport on far-ranging transport corridors", said Peter Dannewitz, Sales Manager of the company, which is registered in Frankfurt am Main. From Rostock, for instance, Finland, Sweden and Denmark can be reached by ferry, while from Wels there are rail connections to and from Vienna, Curtici, Thessaloniki, Budapest and the Port of Trieste.

All the traction for the train on the German and Austrian rail network will be provided by DB Cargo AG. Including the new service between Rostock and Wels, Kombiverkehr now offers a total of 38 departures a week in bilateral Germany-Austria transport.

A new direct train of Kombiverkehr KG is now carrying trailers, swap bodies and containers between the Port of Rostock and Wels in Austria. Several countries in Scandinavia and southeastern Europe can be reached by onward ferry or rail services using the company's intermodal network.
