  • Port of Ambarli: Kombiverkehr adds Turkey's largest port to its intermodal network

(Frankfurt/Main, 17 May 2016) Kombiverkehr KG, Europe's largest provider of intermodal rail services, is expanding its European network with the addition of a new ferry connection in the Mediterranean. On 10 May 2016 the intermodal services to Turkey, which consist of a rail-ferry combination between Pendik, Haydarpasa, Mersin and Cesme and various terminals in Germany via the Italian port of Trieste, was supplemented with a ferry connection to and from Ambarli, on the European side of Turkey. Specialising in container services, the port of Ambarli is the largest in Turkey and the central maritime transshipment facility for all of Turkey's imports and exports and for the Marmara region. "Given its immediate proximity to the metropolis of Istanbul, the port of Ambarli is enormously important for many logistics companies and is particularly suitable for consignment flows to the Halkali, Cerkezköy and Corlu regions. That makes it an ideal addition to our flexible product portfolio, which had previously focused on ports on the Asian side of Turkey. In future our customers will be able to reach both parts of Turkey using Kombiverkehr products", explained sales director Peter Dannewitz. The ferry service runs three times a week from Ambarli to Triest and once a week in the return direction.
