Kombiverkehr KG expands MegaHub network again
12/15/2021
  • New from 13 December: Rotterdam Europoort and Lovosice

  • Intermodal connections to Scandinavia and the Baltic region also possible via Lübeck's Baltic Rail Gate Terminal

  • Increase in frequency from three to five departures per week and direction to and from Duisburg

(Frankfurt/Main, 15th December 2021) Kombiverkehr KG is again expanding its range of products via the MegaHub Hannover-Lehrte rapid-transfer facility. Following the commencement of services in April 2021 and the first stage of expansion at the start of September 2021, the Rotterdam Europoort and Lovosice terminals are now also to be connected to the innovative hub terminal east of Hanover. "With the addition of today's train product between Rotterdam's Europoort terminal and Lovosice in the Czech Republic to the MegaHub transport concept, we are opening up key gateway services in our international network for both industrial regions via Hanover," explains Alexander Ochs, managing director of Kombiverkehr. Since the change of timetable last weekend, Rotterdam and Lovosice now have connecting services to northern Europe and the Baltic region via the Baltic Sea ports of Kiel and Lübeck. Heading south, services from Rotterdam and Lovosice to northern Italy with a connection to the Verona Interterminal are possible on an A/C schedule. "From Europoort, logistics companies have access to major ferry services to Great Britain that dovetail with our rail-side products. Multimodal transport on the east-west corridor has gained further significance since Brexit. We are helping UK hauliers complete their transport chains with new international routes via Hannover-Lehrte," Ochs continues. The new services from Rotterdam Europoort and Lovosice to Hannover-Lehrte are offered four times a week for each route. The same applies for the opposite direction. The departure days and schedules can be found in the online timetable information on the Kombiverkehr KG website.

Lübeck-Skandinavienkai connection and increase in frequency for Duisburg
Further connections to and from Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Baltic states via the Baltic Rail Gate Terminal on Skandinavienkai, which is now linked with the rapid-transfer facility in Hanover three times a week in each direction, have been available since mid-November. It continues to be possible to book transfers of trailers, tank containers and swap bodies onto direct trains serving Stockholm and Hallsberg on Kombiverkehr's northern European network via Lübeck's Dänischburg CTL terminal, while ferry services to and from St. Petersburg and Finland are similarly available from this quay. Kombiverkehr's forwarding customers either book the entire route for their transports in the one-stop-shop process or arrange the onward sea leg from Dänischburg with the relevant shipping company.

The operator also took the opportunity of the 2021/2022 timetable change to boost the frequency of departures on the existing route between Hannover-Lehrte and Duisburg-Ruhrort Hafen DUSS. Both directions have been offered five times a week (Mondays to Fridays) since 13 December. This shortens the transfer times in transit services via Duisburg and Hanover.

Maximum flexibility in routing and international location benefit for Hanover
All connected terminals are linked to each other via the MegaHub Hannover-Lehrte. The MegaHub is funded by the German Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure as part of a federal programme aimed at securing the future of rail freight. The connections are scheduled so that trains will arrive between 8 in the evening and 6 in the morning and be laid up only briefly, allowing transport units to be transferred particularly quickly. The system product from Kombiverkehr is already giving forwarders and logistics companies a whole range of additional options for reaching key economic regions and ports in Europe. The transport services can be booked end-to-end. The MegaHub routes open up a European intermodal product range with rapid direct services for the Hanover region as well.
