Kombiverkehr increases frequency of services to and from Sweden via the Öresund bridge

  • Three return journeys a week in total between Coevorden or Bad Bentheim and Malmö since 3 September
  • Current Lübeck – Stockholm v.v. company train available to forwarders from now on with simultaneous increase in frequency of departures

(Frankfurt/Main, 12 September 2018) Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr KG, Europe’s market leader for intermodal rail freight transport, is strengthening its commitment to Scandinavian services via the fixed link. Since 3 September 2018, there are now three rather than the previous two shuttle trains running directly between Coevorden in the Netherlands or Bad Bentheim and the Mertz terminal in Malmö. From the beginning of this week, the direct train between Lübeck and Stockholm, which likewise uses the Öresund bridge and which Kombiverkehr has been operating exclusively as a “company train” for a forwarder specialising in commercial logistics, will also be available to other forwarders and logistics companies as a regular timetabled service. At the same time, the frequency of services will rise from three to five departures a week in each direction. “We expect to see demand for intermodal solutions in northern European transport continue to climb this year, having already posted record results in this segment last year. The changes that we have now made to our own network via the fixed link are therefore just the logical consequence of this growth trend”, emphasises Peter Dannewitz, Head of Sales at the Frankfurt company.

With the implementation of both measures, Kombiverkehr is increasing the number of international direct trains serving northern Europe to 56 trains a week, a significant part of the euNETdirekt+ network. The operator offers further services to and from northern Europe via the Baltic Sea ports of Kiel, Lübeck and Rostock, efficiently integrating them into the national and international networks by optimising timetables between ferry and rail.

Kombiverkehr KG operates the Mertz Terminal in Malmö with three weekly round trips in intermodal transport since 3 September 2018. Target stations in Germany and the Netherlands are Bad Bentheim and Coevorden.
