Kombiverkehr KG establishes new operating company for Mortara terminal
12/20/2022
  • Kombi Terminal Mortara s.r.l. to begin operations on 1 January 2023

  • Harald Schmittner taking over as chairman and CEO

(Frankfurt/Main, 20 December 2022) Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr KG completed the establishment of a new operating company for terminal operations in Mortara in mid-November. In doing so the operator has taken another step down the path of actively contributing its intermodal expertise at the interfaces of road-rail Combined Transport and aligning terminal operations to best meet the requirements of forwarders.

Known as Kombi Terminal Mortara s.r.l., the new company will take over ongoing transshipment operations at the Mortara terminal on 1 January 2023, providing continuity on a quality-assured basis. The chairman of the fully owned subsidiary of Kombiverkehr KG will be Harald Schmittner. Davide Muzio will remain on the management team. “The Mortara terminal is an important location for us in the greater Milan area that we have now anchored firmly in our product portfolio. We want to continue strengthening our services between Benelux, Germany, Scandinavia and Italy via the Alps, and this new operating company will play a key part in that. That's why we have also entered into a long-term lease with the owner of the facility,” said Armin Riedl, managing director of Kombiverkehr KG.

Equipped with the latest technology, the Mortara terminal has a total surface area in excess of 100,000 square metres and three transshipment platforms, each 650 metres in length. The facility is fully accessible to electric locomotives. Loading units are transferred using up to four reach stackers, which means the terminal is already working particularly efficiently and economically today. Empty container storage services are offered for forwarding customers. Since the timetable change in December 2022, the Mortara terminal has been despatching 34 trains a week to and from Ghent, Venlo, Rotterdam and Krefeld for Kombiverkehr KG.
