Hamburg, Kiel and Malmö are connected to the Hannover Lehrte MegaHub
08/25/2021
  • More frequent services to Duisburg, Lübeck, Munich and Verona
  • More national and international routes in planning

(Frankfurt/Main, 1. September 2021) Kombiverkehr KG is enhancing its range of services via the Hannover Lehrte MegaHub rapid-transfer facility with new routes and additional dispatch days on existing routes. Since 3 August 2021, forwarders and logistics companies have been able to choose from three weekly train departures to forward their intermodal transport units via the MegaHub to the Swedish CT terminal in Malmö operated by Mertz. This is set to be upped to four departures a week in each direction in the Kombiverkehr timetable on 6 September. On the same day, Hamburg-Billwerder and the Port of Kiel will for the first time be connected to the operator's innovative national and international transport network. Both routes will be in operation five times a week and will serve Schwedenkai and Ostuferhafen in Kiel.

More frequent services for even more climate-friendly transport
In April 2021, together with DB Cargo, Kombiverkehr began the process of integrating the rapid-transfer facility into the intermodal network with five national services and one international service. All the train services have been running successfully for the last five months and departures are now set to increase. "Since starting these services, experience has clearly shown that the Lehrte MegaHub is the perfect addition to our gateway strategy and lifts it to a new level. Managing director Alexander Ochs is full of confidence about the integration of Hannover Lehrte into the range of services: "Our wide-ranging network has given our customers a noticeable increase in the options for forwarding semitrailers, swap bodies and containers across Germany and Europe. The issues of CO2 pricing and the lack of drivers alone have boosted the demand for our services even more in the first half of the year. This is now having a positive effect on the frequency of train departures." Train services on four routes are becoming even more attractive at the same time. From 6 September, the Frankfurt-based company will provide five weekly departures in both directions to and from Lübeck CTL (Lehmann Terminal), München-Riem and Verona Interterminal. Duisburg Ruhrort Hafen DUSS will be increasing to four departures a week in each direction at the same time, followed by a fifth train departure in October. The dispatch days and times can be found in the online timetable information on the Kombiverkehr KG website. A further stage of expansion is in preparation for 2021/2022.

Maximum flexibility for routing and intermodal location benefit for Hanover
All connected terminals are linked to each other via the Hannover Lehrte MegaHub. The MegaHub Hannover-Lehrte is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with 7.8 million euros as part of the federal programme "Zukunft Schienengüterverkehr". Enak Ferlemann MdB, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure: "We need to shift more goods from road to environmentally friendly rail. Because more combined transport means fewer lorry journeys, less congestion and lower CO2 emissions. I am all the more pleased with the positive development at the MegaHub in Lehrte, which we want to further support and consolidate with our funding."

The connections are scheduled so that trains will arrive between 8 in the evening and 6 in the morning and be laid up only briefly, thus allowing transport units to be reloaded very quickly. The new system product from Kombiverkehr is already giving forwarders and logistics companies a whole range of additional options for reaching key economic regions and ports in Europe. Services can be booked on end-to-end routes. A range of intermodal services with rapid direct connections throughout Europe has also been created for the economic region of Hanover itself thanks to the MegaHub.
