Frankfurt am Main/München, May 5, 2015. With the theme "Europe perfectly combined", the Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr KG, Europe's largest provider for the realization of intermodal transport, presents itself in hall B6, Stand 305/406, at the transport logistic trade fair which takes place in Munich from today until May 8, 2015. The focus of the trade show presentation will be on current capacity expansions, internet-based applications for transport management and an innovative kit system for retrofitting not cranable semi-trailers, in addition to the national and international networks.

More than 170 train departures in 28 countries daily

With intermodal solutions, Kombiverkehr connects 28 European countries efficiently and climate-friendly on the rails. Thanks to direct trains and gateway services, customers from the freight forwarding and logistics sectors benefit from approximately 15,000 daily connections. The backbone of the international network eu.NETdirect+ is formed by more than 850 continental train departures per week. This offer is supplemented by special hinterland services from the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp in the network eu.NETmaritime. In Germany's largest intermodal network de.NETdirect+, Kombiverkehr connects 21 business locations with overnight services. As and when required, this offer can also be booked completely free of CO2 emissions through the use of energy from wind and hydropower.

New capacities in the network

The existing network of terminal-to-terminal connections was expanded by the Frankfurt-based CT operator by 14 train and ferry departures per week at the beginning of the year. In cooperation with the partner company HUPAC, Kombiverkehr offers a new shuttle train between Köln-Eifeltor and Malmö CT Terminal since January via the fixed link which runs four times a week in each direction for loading units with full P/C 400 profile. Also in January, the range of intermodal services to Greece was boosted by a train-ferry combination via Trieste through a new ferry connection which operates two times a week to and from Lavrio in the Attica region – located about 60 kilometres south of Athens. In the Baltic Sea traffic, the frequency of trains between Ludwigshafen KTL and Lübeck-Skandinavienkai was increased from five to six departures.

Range of information available on the internet modified and expanded

Kombiverkehr has technically revised and expanded the content of the existing online offering at www.kombiverkehr.com for customers and interested parties. The following three new features are of particular importance:

  • The basis of calculation for the quick accounting of pollutant emissions has been converted to the new standard DIN EN 16258, the European standard for the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions in freight forwarding and logistics. The quick accounting compares the pollutant emissions of intermodal transport with the end-to-end road transport on individually plannable routes. In addition to the CO2 equivalents, pollutant emissions such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide or particulate matter and energy expenses are also issued, broken down into the emission stages Well-to-Wheel (WTW) and Tank-to-Wheel (TTW).

  • The “personal timetable booklets” which can be created via myKombiverkehr will be issued not only as PDF documents, but now also as electronic timetable data in the form of XML files. The XML datasets are compressed in such a way that they can be automatically imported into the various shipping systems. Basis for this extension is the EU-TEN-T-project Widermos.

  • In the future, the internet-based, user-friendly and secure online booking function can also be used via the application myKOMBIVERKEHR. It simplifies the booking of loading units in the European network of Kombiverkehr by means of special web services. A pilot operation with customers of the company is currently running. The launch of the live operation of the new online booking service is planned for the summer of 2015.

Trade fair innovation: Tomlift puts semi-trailers on the rails

For shippers and freight carriers who want to integrate the intermodal road-rail traffic with existing, not cranable equipment in their transport chains, there is now a solution with a low investment risk available which is supported by Kombiverkehr KG to further promote multimodal transport. With the assembly set “Tomlift”, the company Transport Innovation has developed a retrofit system which allows semi-trailers to be equipped retroactively with grappler pockets and thus makes them liftable by crane. In addition to canvas cover vehicles, this technical innovation is also aimed at box-type and temperature-controlled vehicles. The system, which is manufactured in Germany, is universally suitable for all manufacturers and semi-trailer model series, it is TÜV tested, ISO and CE certified, and has a low weight of about 315 kg. The installation can be performed by authorized workshops in Germany. In case of a later sale of the vehicle the kit can be removed again without too much effort. Tomlift will be presented to the professional audience in the outdoor area at stand 705/2.
